Diamond Star Brooch/Pendant 3.00CT in 18ct Yellow Gold and Platinum
Brilliant cut, Claw set
Description
An elegant star shaped brooch/pendant in 18ct yellow gold, platinum and diamonds from the Retro period. With platinum reserved for wartime use, jewellery from the period embraced the warm tones of yellow and rose gold. Stars have featured in jewellery for centuries, and were particularly favoured by the Victorians, who attached huge sentiment to them as symbols of direction. Dating back to the 1960s, this brooch/pendant features an eye-catching, polished yellow gold, spiky double star motif that has been topped by a cluster of sparkling brilliant cut diamonds (3.00ct) set into platinum. A secure pin, with discreet concealable bail, enables this piece to be worn as a brooch on the lapel of a favourite coat, or suspended from a chain with an evening dress. With the first man-made object landing on the moon in 1959, these have clearly been influenced by the space race, which resulted in a desire for clearly defined, star shaped jewellery.
