The Botswana Diamond Ring
From Mine to Masterpiece: to celebrate our connection with Botswana, we recently designed a spectacular Masterpiece Skimming Stone ring showcasing a breathtakingly rare 10.32ct Type IIA oval-cut diamond from the Karowe mine.
Nurturing Nature
Botswana is the global leader in sustainable and responsibly sourced diamonds. Its abundant supply of beautiful natural stones and its embedded ethical environmental standards make it a shining example of how diamond mining can do good.
Members of the Pragnell family recently travelled to Gaborone on a mission to see first-hand how our diamonds benefit the communities and environment. They spent time with key partners, including Debswana (DeBeers/Botswana government alliance), to understand groundbreaking initiatives, including the ‘Okavango Eternal’ program, protecting the source waters of The Delta and their ‘Female First’ initiative, training women to work in all sectors of the diamond industry.
Rare Perfection
This exceptional 10.32ct colourless (D) Type IIA diamond is known as one of the rarest and most sought-after gemstones in the world.
Sourced from the Karowe mine in Botswana, this unique stone was hand-picked by a member of the Pragnell family.
The first stage is to ‘map’ the rough stone through a combination of technology and the human eye to yield the largest, brightest and inclusion-free polished diamond. As the rough yielded such promise, it was shown to several highly experienced planners to ensure its potential was maximised. The diamond then went through several cutting and polishing stages, taking over three months to reach its full potential, making it one of the rarest diamonds in the world, a flawless (IF), colourless (D) Type IIA.
Designed to be Brilliant
Given the significance and purity of the diamond, the setting of this unique stone required a carefully considered approach. Our Pragnell workshops put the stone first, crafting an entirely unique design out of 18ct yellow gold, accented with pave diamonds around the edge.
This innovative, backless setting enhances the appearance of the stone, amplifying its beauty by allowing light to pass through it, further showcasing its brilliance.
Each Pragnell Masterpiece carries the number 56 inscribed inside the band. This is because Masterpieces are designed in number 5 and 6 Wood Street, the home of Pragnell.
