This 'Mine to Masterpiece' story is testament to the depth of knowledge, expertise and relationships we've accumulated over the past 170 years. It This enables us to guarantee transparency of the most important stones in our Masterpiece collection by identifying and sharing the rich histories of gems from famous mines that have long since closed.

The Emerald People

The word ‘Muzo’ is closely associated with the world’s finest, most sought-after emeralds and has been for hundreds of years. The Muzo region, located in the high Andes mountains of Colombia, was inhabited by a tribe of warriors known as the ‘Emerald People’. This name reflects their remarkable skill in extracting the vibrant green stones in their land.

Nestled beneath the verdant rainforests covering the country, these mines are famous for producing high-quality stones with a uniquely intense green colour.

Mine to Masterpiece

Having stood the test of time, this 4.85ct Muzo stone has been skilfully ‘refreshed’ by our master lapidarist here in the UK to ensure its facets are as crisp as the day they were first cut. This unique stone was saved from an Art Deco ring. The emerald cut was a popular design during this period, valued for its aesthetic geometry. Its broad facets enhance the stone's depth of colour highlighting its clarity. Additionally, the prismatic effect creates a unique geometric repetition within the stone, known as the "hall of mirrors”.

Styling the Setting

Crafted in 18ct yellow gold, this classic setting celebrates this incredible emerald. Every aspect, including the size, shape, and angle of the shoulder stones were carefully considered to draw the eye to the mesmerising centre stone, one of nature’s finest rare jewels.
