Victorian diamond set star Pendant 3.00cts in Silver in 18ct Yellow Gold
Old Mine-Cut Diamonds Grain-set
Description
A Victorian Diamond star Pendant with detachable Hair Ornament ‘en Tremblant’. This dazzling jewel is a particularly fine example of a late Victorian Star motif centred with an old mine-cut Diamond, radiating 6 points all pave-set with 36 graduating old mine-cut Diamonds, all tapering to a pointed tip, interspersed with 6 crimped, cut-down collet-set old mine-cut Diamonds set on a fine knife edged wire, all open-backed and set in Silver on 18ct Yellow Gold. Circa 1890. Diamond encrusted Star brooches, Crescents & Feathers were often attached as fastenings for lace & velvet or adorned elaborate hair styles fixed with ‘en Tremblant’ attachments for the evening & were highly fashionable in the 1890’s. Princess Alexandra was given a ‘parure’ of Diamond star brooches by the Prince of Wales in 1863 as can be seen in a photograph by Alexander Bassano 1881 which hangs in the National Portrait Gallery. Estimated Diamond weight 3.00cts. Colour H/I & Clarity VS/SI. Suspended from an 18ct Rose Gold & Platinum ball link chain by a collapsible hinged pendant loop with Detachable Hair pin. Fitted case.
