Gatsby 1.66ct Sapphire and Aquamarine Cluster Ring in Platinum
Octagon Cut, Claw Set
Description
A striking platinum, blue Sri Lankan sapphire and aquamarine cluster ring from our Gatsby Collection. Hand selected by a member of the Pragnell family a central octagonal step cut 1.66ct rich velvet blue sapphire has been securely claw set as the centrepiece of this stunning ring. An eye-popping contrast has been achieved by the addition of a delicate border and half shoulders set with alluring French cut aquamarine gemstones (0.50ct). The central sapphire is accompanied by certification from the World Gemological Institute confirming that it has been subjected to heat treatment to enhance its colour and clarity. Inspired by our extensive collection of antique jewellery this piece showcases the geometric lines and strong forms of the Art Deco period. Named after the famous 1925 novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald the opulence and decadence of the Jazz Age is clear for all to see. Eye-catching and striking colour combinations could be seen during this period in the creations adorning the windows of jewellers of both Fifth Avenue in New York and the Place Vendome in Paris. Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor (1896-1986) was particularly fond of these pieces, and a number featured in her extensive jewellery collection when it was sold at auction in 1987.
