Edwardian Marcus & Co 3.75ct Colombian Emerald and Diamond Pendant in Platinum
Cushion Cut, Millegrain Set
Description
A statement drop style pendant from the Edwardian period by the House of Marcus & Co. A superb cushion cut Colombian emerald (3.75ct) takes centre stage, and has been surrounded by an intricate openwork platinum setting. Four old cut diamonds have been set at the main compass points around the emerald, with smaller stones of varying sizes surrounding these. The top bail section of the pendant is defined by a lustrous creamy 5mm pearl with a fine 52cm chain completing the design. The central emerald is accompanied by certification from the AGL (American Gemological Laboratories), confirming its Colombian origin and that it has been subjected to insignificant oil treatment. The House of Marcus & Co was founded in late 19th-century New York City, and became famous for the superb quality of its designs. The House remained in family ownership until the early 1940s, when it was sold, and then merged with another famous name (Black, Starr & Frost). Widely collected by connoisseurs worldwide, works by Marcus & Co regularly feature in notable museum collections alongside examples by more well-known names, such as Rene Lalique & Louis Comfort Tiffany. This example is accompanied by its original fitted box.
