Description
A delicate 1.41ct emerald cut Burmese ruby captivates as the centrepiece of this stunning ring from the Edwardian period. This beautiful gemstone has been intricately set into durable platinum, surrounded by an engraved border. Engraved decoration can also be seen on the top sections of each shoulder, which perfectly completes the design. The expert setting and low profile of this piece ensure that it is perfect to be worn as an engagement ring. The Edwardian period only lasted for nine years (1901-1910), but it was an incredibly important era for jewellery design. Hugely intricate pieces, showcasing the very best diamonds and coloured gemstones, were worn with elaborate fashions from the most famous French couture houses. Driven by the explosion of court life, and steered by the fashion-conscious King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, this was a truly special time. Burma, or Myanmar, is a country that is renowned for its deposits of extraordinary rubies and other fine gemstones. Showcasing rich and vibrant tones, this rare and sought-after example is accompanied by certification from the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), confirming a prestigious Burmese origin, and that it has not been subjected to any heat treatment to improve its colour.
