About Chopard
Chopard was founded in 1860 in Sonvilier, Switzerland, by 24-year-old Louis-Ulysse Chopard. The artisan watchmaker created works of art with innovative designs and these helped him to export to places such as the court of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Reliability and precision were, and still are, very sought after characteristics in watches - Chopard built its reputation by producing watches with these qualities.
In 1963, the company was bought by the Scheufele family. Since then, Chopard has continued with its commitment to the tradition of excellence and has significantly developed as both a watch and jewellery brand.
The company’s reputation soared for both Chopard watches and jewellery, reinforced by partnerships with the likes of the Cannes Film Festival and the Mille Miglia motor race. Chopard is one of the last family-run watchmaking and jewellery companies.
Since the 1970s, the brand has established an even stronger recognition and identity by revolutionising the watch industry with the Happy Diamonds line. For the first time, moving diamonds could be appreciated between two crystal sapphire glasses on the face of the watch. They then went on to launch the Happy Sport model, the first watch to combine diamonds with a stainless steel case. Today it remains one of the most iconic models and most desirable in the industry.
