About Bvlgari Serpenti Watches
The Serpenti range first appeared in the collections of the House of Bvlgari as early as the 1940s. Based in Rome, the near 3000 year history of the city provided huge inspiration for the founding family who focused onto ancient architectural motifs, coinage, and symbols to create a brand that would soon become the byword for Italian luxury. Snakes were particularly important to the ancient Romans who associated them with good fortune, and regularly portrayed them in statement bangles and rings. Gleaming in richly polished yellow and rose gold the Tubogas technique had become hugely popular in the post war years, and perfectly enabled flexible snake style watches to be made. The late Hollywood icon Dame Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011) wore a breath taking yellow gold and sparkling diamond set rattlesnake Serpenti watch whilst in Rome filming Cleopatra in the 1960s. This beautiful piece sold for nearly one million dollars in the December 2011 sale of her collection.
The Serpenti range echoes classic Bvlgari style from the 1940s, and are the perfect combination of a watch and a piece of jewellery. A carefully curated selection of these exquisite timepieces can now be found at Pragnell.
