Description

A refined platinum, 18ct yellow gold and mixed cushion cut Burmese ruby ring from the Edwardian period. Glowing in the early summer sunshine a vibrant 1.50ct ruby has been expertly set as the centrepiece of this truly special jewel. Two octagonal rows of delicately sparkling old cut diamonds have been expertly millegrain set into platinum, and ensure that all eyes are drawn towards the rare centre stone. A delicate under bezel perfectly contrasts in warm yellow gold, and has been pierced with eye catching scrollwork motives. The combination of platinum and gold continues onto the shoulders, which have been shaped into lily flowers, and showcase further old cut diamonds. Burma of Myanmar, is a country that is renowned for its deposits of extraordinary gemstones. Deep red rubies are particularly sought after with the cushion cut example here being accompanied by certification from the AGL (American Gemmological Laboratories) to confirm that it has not been subjected to any heat treatment to advance its colour. The Edwardian period only lasted for nine years (1901-1910), but it was an incredibly important era for jewellery design. Hugely intricate pieces, showcasing the very best diamonds and gemstones, were worn with elaborate fashions from the most famous French couture houses. Driven by the explosion of court life, steered by the fashion-conscious King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, this was a truly special time. Check Specifications for ring size details.
