Description
A beautiful 22ct yellow gold expertly modelled conch shell dress ring from the House of Lalaounis. Influenced by the hugely rich heritage of jewellery found in Greece, the House was founded in 1969 by llias Lalaounis. Pieces bearing his signature are known to display ancient forms that glow in polished yellow gold. This ring dates from the 1970s, and formed part of the Seashell Collection, which focused upon shells found in the South Pacific as inspiration. The classical elegance of this piece ensures that it transcends styles and periods, and is hugely wearable today. Attracting admiration world-wide, the global style icon, Jacqueline Kennedy, often wore Lalaounis pieces after her marriage to the Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis, in 1968. The couple spent much time in Greece, entertaining on Skorpios, which was a private island owned by Onassis in the Ionian Sea. Demonstrating time honoured goldsmith techniques. Lalaounis was a pioneering Greek designer and goldsmith who was inspired by his country's ancient history. He was an advocate of reviving age-old goldsmith techniques.
