Description
A Victorian sapphire and diamond ring, featuring three cushion cut sea blue sapphires totalling 2.43cts. Four romantically sparkling old cut diamonds (0.14cts) complete the design breathing life and fire into the statement sapphires. Seven stone rings are said to represent the luck of number 7, and the encirclement of continuing love. They became increasingly popular in the Victorian period when it became fashionable to wear multiple rings on each hand. This was influenced by Queen Victoria and her royal relatives, who dictated styles and tastes to the Empire at large. The richly polished openwork yellow gold claw mount enables the maximum amount of light to enter and exit the stones. Victorians loved anything bestowed with meaning and this was particularly true for jewellery. The 'Romantic' period of this era represented a time of marital bliss for Queen Victoria.
