Description
A glowing Victorian Burmese ruby and diamond ring, featuring five antique cushion cut rubies and small old cut diamonds. Five stone rings are said to represent the five qualities of a good relationship: love, commitment, trust, communication and empathy. They became increasingly popular in the Victorian period, when it became fashionable to wear multiple rings on each hand. This was influenced by Queen Victoria and her royal relatives, who dictated styles and tastes to the Empire at large. Burma, or Myanmar, is a country that is renowned for its deposits of extraordinary gemstones. Small old cut diamonds have been expertly set in the main claws between the statement stones to complete the design. The openwork yellow gold mount displays a pierced pattern that enables the maximum amount of light to enter and exit the stones.
