Description
A vibrant Victorian Burmese ruby and diamond ring, featuring five antique cushion cut rubies totalling 3.20ct and small old cut diamonds. Five stone rings are said to represent the five qualities of a good relationship: love, commitment, trust, communication and empathy. They became increasingly popular in the Victorian period, when it became fashionable to wear multiple rings on each hand. This was influenced by Queen Victoria and her royal relatives, who dictated styles and tastes to the Empire at large. Burma, or Myanmar, is a country that is renowned for its deposits of extraordinary gemstones. These five rubies display the much sought after deep red colour tone and are likely to have originated from the famous Mogok mines, which are now largely exhausted. Small old cut diamonds have been expertly set in the main claws between the statement stones to complete the design. The richly polished openwork yellow gold mount displays an elaborate pierced pattern that enables the maximum amount of light to enter and exit the stones. The beautiful rubies featured in this ring are accompanied by certification (Gemmological Certification Lab) to confirm their sought after Burmese origin, and that they have not been subjected to any heat treatment to enhance their colour.
