Victorian Burmese Ruby & Diamond Bangle 4.45ct in 15ct Yellow Gold & Silver
Oval, Cushion, Pear shape, Old European, Swiss & Rose, Claw Set
Description
A breath-taking 15ct yellow gold, silver, Burmese ruby and diamond bangle from the Victorian period. Five vibrant and glowing cushion, oval and pear cut red Burmese rubies (4.45ct) have been expertly surrounded by romantically sparkling old cut diamonds (5.50ct). Spreading elegantly across the wrist this beautiful jewel showcases exceptional Victorian craftsmanship, and the rarest most desirable rubies in the world. The famous Mogok mines are now largely exhausted, so the best quality Burmese rubies are found in the finest antique pieces. Bracelets and bangles became hugely popular during the Victorian period when it became fashionable to wear multiple examples on each wrist. This was influenced by Queen Victoria and her royal relatives, who dictated styles and tastes to the Empire at large. Formed to resemble delicate flower heads, the Victorians loved anything bestowed with meaning, which was particularly true of jewellery. With rubies traditionally representing passion and devotion, and diamonds love and prosperity this bangle can be related to the ‘Romantic’ period of the era. This represented a time of marital bliss for Queen Victoria, and resulted in some beautiful jewellery designs. With each ruby bearing certification, which confirms their Burmese origin and that they have not been subjected to any heat treatment to enhance their colour, this is a truly rare and special jewel.
