Van Cleef and Arpels Diamond Ear Clips in 18ct Yellow Gold
Brilliant Cut Diamonds, with Carved Coral
Description
A pair of 18ct yellow gold lapis lazuli, coral, malachite and diamond ear clips from the 1980s, by the House of Van Cleef & Arpels. Three distinct sections of expertly carved, gold specked, blue lapis lazuli, intense pink coral, and intense green malachite have been securely set into yellow gold. Two bands of colourless brilliant cut diamonds (1.68ct) separate these sections and provide an alluring sparkle. Practical clip backs allow these ear clips to be worn and enjoyed without the need for pierced ears. The house was at its zenith when it was owned and run by the founding family, from 1896 to 1999. The combination of a bold form and striking colours place these ear clips firmly in the 1980s, which was a period that is remembered for larger than life fashions, hair styles and conspicuous consumption. During this period, with a global network of luxury boutiques augmented by the flagship showrooms in Paris and New York, the House was the only destination for the most famous and wealthy personages in the world. The very best designs are truly timeless, and the bold and sculptural style of this piece makes it highly collectible and coveted today.
