Retro Sapphire Buckle Bracelet 3.37ct in Yellow Gold
Brilliant Cut Sapphire Honeycomb Bracelet
Description
An 18ct yellow gold blue sapphire (3.37ct) set garter style bracelet from the Retro period. With platinum reserved for wartime use, jewellery from this period embraced the warm tones of yellow and rose gold. Demonstrating superb skill and craftsmanship, a network of polished hexagonal yellow gold pieces have been individually linked together to form a honeycomb or brick motif. Inspired by a traditional garter, this iconic construction is defined by a tapered end that has been set with expertly calibre cut blue sapphires. The piece is secured by a tactile triangular clasp that has been further highlighted with three distinct rows of calibre cut sapphires. On the wrist it feels supple and fabric like, with the yellow and blue colour tones of the gold and sapphires perfectly complementing each other. This is a classic style that was originally created by the famed House of Van Cleef & Arpels in 1934. Known as the “Ludo” bracelet, it combined the two worlds of jewellery and couture that were so dominant in the Art Deco period.
Retro designs were varied and striking, from geometric and modern, to romantic interpretations of Victorian era styles.
