Description
A beautifully crafted statement yellow gold, lapis lazuli and white stone ring from the Retro period. Strikingly uncluttered and architectural in its form, we see two identical hexagonal shapes in contrasting polished yellow gold and opaque white stone expertly joined together. Four expertly shaped intense blue gold flecked lapis lazuli batons have been set into recessed sections, and define this impressive piece. Lapis Lazuli has appeared in jewellery for thousands of years, having originally been discovered in Afghanistan. It became increasingly popular during the Retro period, as its beautiful blue colour worked well with the yellow gold that was so predominantly used. Worn as a little finger ring, this piece conveys an originality and freshness that is seen in the best jewels of the period. A perfect ring to convey the warmth and colours of the Mediterranean coast in the summer sun, or to complement a favourite pair of jeans worn for an alfresco lunch. The bold block colours of this rare and collectable ring are reminiscent of a Mondrian painting. Despite having a simple form, this ring exemplifies exceptional craftsmanship. Retro designs were varied and striking, from geometric and modern to romantic interpretations of Victorian era styles, with warm yellow and rose gold being favoured metal choices.
