Lucy Rivers Bulkeley
The first woman to conquer the 4 deserts and 7 summits.
Where the Journey Began
A friend of the family, Lucy is a rare jewel with a shared passion for pushing boundaries. She started her ultramarathon journey by crossing over 250km of desert in the 4 Desert Grand Slam Marathon, a self–supported race that stretches over the Sahara, Atacama, Gobi and Antarctic deserts. Having never done a marathon before, it was the catalyst to a life of adventure.
Facing New Heights
Seeking her next challenge, Lucy set her sights on becoming the first woman in the world to complete both the 4 Desert Grand Slam and 7 Summits Challenge, a feat that would see her set a number of new world records along the way.
Having successfully summited the six highest mountains in the world, Everest the final challenge, the seventh summit. Lucy spent just over a month on the mountain acclimatising to the harsh conditions; it was nothing short of breath-taking, she recalls: “It’s crystal clear at the top; you just can’t compute how far you can see. Everything in the world is below you. You’re so high you can see the curvature of the earth.”
Adventures of a Rare Jewel
Accompanying Lucy to the top of Everest was a Pragnell 1ct diamond. This diamond is an incredibly rare and storied gemstone, having adventured from thousands of feet below the earth's surface to thousands of feet above it. As an investment to future achievers, Pragnell proudly set the stone into an Everest pendant and donated the necklace to the Prince's Trust. The piece was auctioned in support of educating and training disadvantaged talent across the UK.
