Cushion Modern Cut, Rubover Set
Description
Hand selected by a member of the Pragnell family a stunning 153.09ct cushion shaped kunzite gemstone commands attention with sought after purplish-pink colour tones. Set into a beautiful pendant this impressive gemstone has been securely claw set into warm 18ct yellow gold with a tactile surround that pays homage to our extensive collection of antique and period jewellery. A detailed bale suspends this jewel from an intricate handmade English chain (75cm). Sourced by a member of the Pragnell family the exceptional size, colour and clarity of this kunzite highlight this as a truly special example. On viewing this gemstone, we are reminded of the purplish-pink tones that blaze across the midsummer evening Cotswold sky signalling “red sky at night”, which means a pleasant and rain free following day. First recognised in 1902 by the American gemmologist George Frederick Kunz this beautiful gemstone is found in Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar and California. Considered as an alternative birthstone for the month of February this showpiece jewel is a perfect statement piece for lovers of colour, and will come alive worn against black for an elegant evening soiree. Large examples of kunzite are adored by gem stone collectors across the globe with the Smithsonian Institute in Washington housing a gigantic 880 carat example.
