A Ray of South African Sunshine
An incredible tale of provenance and discovery, the journey of the Kimberley Sunshine Diamond. From its humble origins in the historic Kimberly mine as a 40.91ct rough, to its exquisite transformation to a 22.09ct internally flawless cushion-cut.
Source & Origin
The Kimberley Mine, located in the Northern Cape province, has been operational since 1886. This mine, including open-pit and underground operations, played a significant role in the 19th-century South African diamond rush. Renowned for yielding high-quality diamonds, especially top-grade yellow stones like the Kimberley Octahedron, it remains a crucial source of valuable gems.
Every spectacular diamond requires a setting that is at once simple and striking. To bring the Kimberley Sunshine Diamond into our Masterpieces curation of one-of-a-kind jewels, our designers created a new setting inspired by our Manhattan collection.
The fancy yellow diamond was secured in 18ct yellow gold hand-forged claws to enhance its colour, with a platinum band decorated with three rows of French- and carré-cut colourless diamonds.
Yellow diamonds have long been associated with happiness and optimism, and the Kimberley Sunshine Diamond embodies this perfectly. It is a beautiful stone with an enchanting story from mine to Masterpieces, and a provenance that proves natural diamonds can do good.
