Description
Few jewellers can rival the House of Chaumet for such a rich and distinguished history. Founded in the late 18th-century the House has created iconic jewels for the most important people. Favoured by Napoleon, Pope Pius VII and by Russian and Indian royalty, the House has long been regarded as the creator of the finest statement jewels and tiaras. An effortless understanding of the geometric forms and strong lines of the Art Deco period ensured some superb creations during the first half of the 20th-century, with this exceptional 10.46ct Asscher cut diamond ring being an important example. Six exquisite platinum talon shaped claws secure the centrepiece of this ring, which to quote a more recent admirer of the House (Dame Elizabeth Taylor who wore the Asscher cut Krupp diamond everyday) ensures “It's like seeing into a corridor of infinity”. Boldly flashing in the light this beautiful diamond is accompanied by certification from the GIA (Gemmological Institute of America) to confirm rare colourless (E) and VS1 clarity grades. This diamond would have been cut around the time of the advent of the Asscher and is an exquisite example of this shape. Set either side of the central diamond are two pairs of trapeze cut stones, which perfectly enhance the geometric appeal of the centre diamond. Delicate carre cut diamonds (0.33ct) also feature on the sides of the gallery and will subtly catch the eye of the wearer when worn. The finesse of the platinum mount displays the high-quality craftsmanship that was synonymous with the important French jewellery houses during the Art Deco period (1911-1940). This fine and rare signed example would likely have been destined for a royal or noble owner.
