Antique Edwardian Diamond Pendant 3.25ct in 18ct White Gold
Brilliant Cut Négligée Pendant
Description
A white gold drop ‘negligée’ 3.25ct diamond set pendant from the Edwardian era. Fashionable during the period, this type of pendant was created in many different versions, with the eye-catching asymmetrical drop elements working well with the corseted fashions of the day. Three rub over set millegrain edged old cut diamonds form the central horizontal element from which are suspended the asymmetrical drop sections. These sections feature lines of eight and ten rub over set millegrain edged stones separated by two larger stones and terminated by the largest stones in the piece. The Edwardian period only lasted for nine years (1901-1910), but it was an incredibly important era for jewellery design. Hugely intricate pieces showcasing the very best diamonds and coloured gemstones were worn with elaborate fashions from the most famous French couture houses. Driven by the explosion of court life, steered by the fashion conscious King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, this was a truly special time. A supremely elegant creation that follows the movement of the wearer with ease, it is as wearable today as it was when originally created.
