Description

A rare and important platinum and pear cut diamond ring from the Edwardian period. This exceptional piece perfectly showcases the glamour and style of the period that was ignited by the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902. All eyes are focused upon the charming facets and culet of this alluring central old cut 5.54ct pear cut stone. Glimmering with a romantic sparkle, it has been secured by four richly polished claws which perfectly complement its rounded shape. This beautiful example has been certified as completely colourless (D), and internally flawless (IF), which means that there are no inclusions. This exceptional antique stone is also classified as a rare and sought after Type IIa, which means it is the most chemically pure and optically transparent type of diamond. Displaying the clear hallmarks of stones from the Golconda region of India, this is a truly exceptional gemstone. The ancient kingdom of Golconda in Southern India produced an extraordinary array of both fancy coloured and colourless diamonds until the mines became exhausted in the early 20th century. Alluring and captivating Golconda stones are sought after by gem connoisseurs and collectors worldwide. A slender, gleaming, platinum shank perfectly complements this impressive diamond, with a delicate engraved channel ensuring the eye is effortlessly drawn towards the striking centrepiece. Two slim baguette cut stones that have been expertly rub over set into the top sections of each shoulder further showcase the magnificent centrepiece. Almost certainly reset into this ring at the beginning of the last century, the rich history of this diamond is not known. However, it is likely to have been removed from a notable family jewel that was no longer worn to form the centrepiece of an engagement ring.
