Description
A glowing 1.87ct oval cut Burmese ruby captivates as the centrepiece of this stunning ring from the Edwardian period. This beautiful gemstone has been intricately millegrain set into durable platinum, and surrounded by a border of romantic old cut diamonds. Delicate stepped and half set shoulders showcase further old cut diamonds, which ensure that all eyes are drawn towards the impressive and rare central ruby. A particularly romantic inclusion is a small flower head that has been engraved just below the diamond setting of each shoulder. The Edwardian period only lasted for nine years (1901-1910), but it was an incredibly important era for jewellery design. Hugely intricate pieces showcasing the very best diamonds and coloured gemstones were worn with elaborate fashions from the most famous French couture houses. Driven by the explosion of court life, steered by the fashion conscious King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, this was a truly special time. Burma, or Myanmar, is a country that is renowned for its deposits of extraordinary rubies and other fine gemstones. Showcasing rich and vibrant tones this rare and sought after example is accompanied by certification from the American Gemmological Laboratories (AGL) to confirm a prestigious Burmese origin, and that it has not been subjected to any heat treatment to improve its colour.
