Description
Founded in Paris in 1847 the rich and illustrious history of the House of Cartier has defined the jewellery world for nearly two hundred years. Still regarded as a byword for luxury the House was famously referred to as “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers” by King Edward VII in the early 20th-century. The house was as its peak when it was owned and run by the founding family, from 1847 to 1964. This important ring, which was crafted in Paris during the 1920s showcases a vibrant and romantic Cartier red antique cushion cut Burmese ruby (2.051ct). Securely rubover set in complementary richly polished yellow gold four further rubies, in a contrasting rectangular cut, have been positioned beside each corner to display a stylised “x” form. Perfectly colour matched these beautiful rubies are further enhanced by compass set sparkling brilliants. Delicate and refined shoulders complete this beautiful design, and feature four small rectangular rubies, and two old cut diamonds. The colour red will forever be associated with Cartier, and it is no coincidence that the rubies that features in their antique and period creations have an extra special magical quality. Burma or Myanmar, is a country that is renowned for its deposits of extraordinary gemstones. The famous Mogok mines are now largely exhausted, so the best quality Burmese rubies are found in the finest antique pieces. The central ruby in this exceptional ring is accompanied by certification from the SSEF (Swiss Gemmological Institute) to confirm its Burmese origin, and that it has not been subjected to any heat treatment.
