Description
A delicate oval cut sapphire, ruby and diamond French tri-colour ring from the Belle Epoque period (c. 1905). Showcasing the colours of the French flag the central vibrant blue sapphire (0.55ct) has been securely rub over set, surrounded by a contrasting halo half set with rubies (0.18ct) and diamonds (0.17ct). A slim shank perfectly completes this delicate ring, which has been defined by engraved linear details. The French capital Paris was regarded as a centre of fashion, the decorative arts and jewellery design during the 19th and 20th-centuries. The optimism and economic prosperity that was experienced during the Belle Epoque period ensured that delicate, refined and often patriotic jewels were produced. This example highlights the nationalistic pride that was felt at the time, and can be worn and enjoyed today as an eye catching ring combining the birthstones for the months of April, July and September.
