Description
An eye-catching romantic ruby and diamond “kiss” ring from the Belle Epoque period. Nine vibrant red cushion cut rubies have been set into yellow gold and form the central cross or “kiss” motif. Traditionally worn together rubies and diamonds have a rich history in jewellery with diamonds symbolising love and prosperity, and rubies passion and devotion. The “kiss” has been expertly showcased set as the centrepiece of a rectangular panel and surrounded by old cut diamonds. Centred in Paris the Belle Epoque period (1871-1914) was a brief, but important period for jewellery design. Inspired by orchids, feathers and the wonders of haute couture jewellery was worn to excess during this period. Showpiece rings were worn with chokers, sautoirs, bracelets, and head ornaments contributing to a marvellous spectacle.
