Description

A rare platinum, diamond and onyx chevalier ring by Juliette Moutard for René Boivin from the Art Deco period (1933-1935). A central 1.80ct antique cushion diamond takes centre stage in a square platinum surround. An expertly shaped, angular, midnight black onyx section surrounds this centre stone, which is defined by two rows of brilliant diamonds that have been set into rectangular sections. Iconic and bold stepped fan sections, reminiscent of gleaming skyscrapers, define each shoulder and highlight this as a superb example of Art Deco design. The engraver and designer, René Boivin, founded the firm bearing his name in Paris during the 1890s. This period was hugely important for jewellery design, and the Boivin name quickly gained a reputation for high quality unconventional pieces that showcased sculptural naturalism. On Boivin's death in 1917, Madame René Boivin took control of the firm and recruited the designer Juliette Moutard in the early 1930s. The house was as its peak when it was owned and run by the founding family, from 1890 to 1991. Continuing in her role until the 1970s, her iconic designs convey the Boivin principle that jewellery had its own distinct identity and reflected the personality of the wearer. This exceptional piece is accompanied by a certificate from the renowned Boivin expert, Françoise Cailles. Check Specifications for ring size details.
