Description
A bold platinum and diamond bombe cocktail ring by Rene Boivin from the earlier Art Deco period (c. 1920). Heralded for innovative designs a classic five stone diamond ring has been used as inspiration for this breath taking cocktail ring. Hugely popular during the earlier Victorian period five-stone rings were known to represent the five qualities of a good relationship: love, commitment, trust, communication and empathy. Securely claw set the five romantic old cut diamonds seen here have been surrounded by a dazzling array of smaller stones that have been expertly set into a tactile bombe form. The bombé or “bomb shaped” design originated in France during the 1920s, which means that this example can be regarded as a relatively early example. As wearable today as it was one hundred years ago this ring would originally have been regarded as something completely bold and new. Expert design and craftsmanship can be seen in the intricate setting of the diamonds coupled with a delicate scalloped edging that separates both elements. The engraver and designer Rene Boivin founded the firm bearing his name in Paris during the 1890s. This period was hugely important for jewellery design, and the Boivin name quickly gained a reputation for high quality unconventional pieces that showcased sculptural naturalism. On Boivin’s death in 1917 Madame Rene Boivin took control of the firm, which continued in family ownership until 1991. Check Specifications for ring size details.
