Description

A superb pair of Colombian Muzo emerald and diamond, articulated, chandelier style drop earrings from the Art Deco period (1930s). Kite and rectangular cut summer green emeralds (4.14cts) form the impressive focal points of both earrings. Set into lustrous platinum and 18ct white gold (French marks), the emeralds have been perfectly complemented by arrangements of baguette and round transitional cut diamonds (3.20cts) that showcase the strong forms and geometric lines that were so favoured during this time. Chandelier style drop earrings became hugely popular during this period, with the fashion for shorter hairstyles exposing the ears as never before. With a rich history of being worn to glamourous cocktail parties, these earrings would have moved elegantly with the wearer, ensuring they dazzled everyone on the dancefloor. Nestled beneath the verdant rainforests that cover the country, the Colombian mines are famous for producing stones that have an intense, pure green colour. The examples set into these earrings are accompanied by certification from the renowned SSEF (Swiss Gemmological Institute) laboratory, to confirm that they have only been subject to minor clarity modifications. The late Queen Elizabeth II was hugely fond of a pair of Art Deco chandelier style drop earrings that were a wedding gift from her parents (King George VI & Queen Elizabeth), in 1947.
