Description
A statement dress ring featuring a stunning peachy pink 15.70ct round cut tourmaline. Tourmaline is a relatively hard wearing gemstone that occurs naturally in a wide range of colours. Examples showcasing rich and vibrant tones in large carat weights are particularly sought after. Here we see the warmth of the rub over set central stone, accented by band and triangular patterns formed out of intricate granular decoration in complementary rich 22ct yellow gold. This decoration contrasts superbly with the metallic grey metal mount and defines the design. Granular goldwork has been used in jewellery since ancient times, with small beads or grains of gold being expertly created and used to form intricate patterns and designs. The combination of this yellow gold granular decoration with a coloured gemstone directly relates back to surviving examples from the ancient world, but is given a modern interpretation due to its sheer bold size and metallic white metal mount. The labour intensive technique of granulation is exemplified in this intricate patterned ring.
Tourmaline is naturally produced in a spectrum of colours. Pink and red shades are the most desirable and sought after; they are also referred to as rubellite.
