1920s Continental Silver Fox Figure Marked 800
Description
This superbly modelled continental silver (800) statement piece displays the detailed weather worn fur of a hunted fox. Depicted exactly as if it has just spotted the hounds closing in the well known bushy tail lies streamlined behind with ears pricked, panting mouth open and red eyes fixed with panic. Fox hunting can be traced back to the early 16th-century, and was a hugely important pastime for wealthy and noble landowners in the 19th-and-20th-centuries. The season ran from October to May, and hunts took place on nearly all the major country estates. Hunting parties have also long been associated with royalty with the future King Edward VII hosting many at his Sandringham estate in Norfolk. This impressive continental silver figure would have been greatly admired in a country sitting room, or used to dress a post hunt lunch or dinner table with humour and style.
