Victorian Emerald and Diamond Bracelet 11.00ct in 18ct Yellow Gold
Octagon Cut, Rubover Set
Description
A superb late Victorian Colombian emerald and diamond openwork chain link bracelet. Five openwork oval links form the statement top section of this design showcasing five verdant green Colombian emeralds (8.00cts). Expertly colour matched these emeralds have been securely rubover set into 18ct yellow gold in the centre of each oval link. These links dazzle with romantically sparkling old cut diamonds (3.00cts) that will come alive in softer evening light. This design was incredibly popular during the period with the flexible chain links ensuring maximum comfort when worn. Nestled beneath the verdant rainforests that cover the country, the Colombian mines are famous for producing stones that have an intense green colour. Certified by the AGL (American Gemmological Laboratories) to confirm its Colombian origin, these examples have only been subjected to insignificant oil clarity enhancement. Bracelets became increasingly popular in the Victorian period when it became fashionable to wear multiple examples on each wrist. This was influenced by Queen Victoria and her royal relatives, who dictated styles and tastes to the Empire at large. Emeralds were also popular, and were regularly worn by the Queen herself set into tiaras, necklaces and brooches, after having initially received an emerald set engagement ring from Prince Albert in the late 1830s.
