Description
A striking geometric dress ring by the House of Mellerio from the 1990s. Arrangements of buttery 18ct yellow gold relief kite and trapeze shapes have been beautifully complemented by kite cut sea blue sapphires and harvest yellow citrines. Dating from the 1990s this design pays homage to the Retro period (1941-1960) when statement yellow and rose gold was often used to showcase sapphires, citrines, rubies and amethysts. Mellerio was originally founded in the 17th-century, and is still run by the family today (14th generation). Favoured by the Bourbon dynasty and across wider Europe a number of priceless jewels bearing the Mellerio name can be found in both the Spanish and Dutch royal collections. This hugely wearable design displays superb quality whilst reinvigorating a classic retro look. This signed and numbered piece instantly conveys the 1990s, when bold gold jewels adorned with multi coloured gemstones became hugely fashionable among the famous jewellers of the Place Vendome in Paris.
