Description
A chic 18ct yellow gold and diamond Toi et Moi cross over ring (London, 1919). Two sparkling old mine cut diamonds have been securely claw set forming the centrepiece of this classic ring. Slim shoulders elegantly curve into the centre section between both stones, catching the eye set with smaller sparkling old European cut stones. This style of ring was hugely popular during the earlier Edwardian period (1901-1910). Derived from the French term meaning “you and me”, it perfectly symbolises the pair of diamonds that feature at the centre of the design. Popular as an engagement ring style during the 19th-century and early 20th-centuries the two stones represented the two lovers joining together. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe of Denmark wears an outstanding Van Cleef & Arpels diamond Toi et Moi ring that was presented to her on her engagement to Henri Laborde de Monpezat in 1967.
