Description

A striking 18ct yellow gold and diamond long (77cm) transformable necklace by the House of Cartier from the 1970s. Elegant and tactile fancy shaped links form the main body of this exceptional piece. Hand crafted from richly polished luxurious yellow gold every third link has been expertly set with sparkling brilliants. The name of Cartier instantly brings to mind the sparkle of diamonds, and the allure of the rich and famous. Since it was founded in Paris in 1847 the House has gone from strength to strength being famously credited as “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers” by King Edward the VII. This necklace was originally produced in the 1970s when warm yellow gold jewellery was central to the culture of conspicuous consumption. Hugely wearable today this signed piece encapsulates the current trend for bold gold pieces of jewellery, and will come to life worn for a Mediterranean lunch in the brilliant summer sun. Transformable jewels have been hugely important to the House since the 1940s, and still feature in their collections today. Effortlessly adaptable to both mood and styles this long necklace easily separates to become a shorter 38cm necklace, and two 19.5cm bracelets. Family owned from 1847 until 1964 this piece displays the very best quality, and is hugely fashionable today.
